Zscaler Names Security Industry Veteran Lane Bess as Chief Operating Officer

Sunnyvale, California, May, 04, 2011

Zscaler, the world leader in Cloud Security, today announced the appointment of Lane Bess as Chief Operating Officer (COO).  Bess brings strong expertise in taking rapid-growth companies to the next level, nurturing corporate partnerships and managing operations.

Bess was formerly CEO of Palo Alto Networks, leading the company from an early revenue stage through global expansion beyond $100 million in revenue and to positive cash flow.  Prior to that, he served as Executive Vice President of Global Sales at Trend Micro, where he helped expand the global business beyond the $1 billion milestone.  Earlier in his career, he held global sales and marketing leadership positions at both NCR Corporation and AT&T, including launching AT&T’s business and consumer Internet services.

“Having seen Lane take companies through the leap that Zscaler is about to make, from young innovator and category leader to mature company, we are excited to have him on board, offering his talent and expertise,” said Jay Chaudhry, CEO of Zscaler. “I am pleased to welcome Lane to the Zscaler team at this exciting time, to further build on the track record of growth and success we’ve had to date.”

“Cloud security is becoming a fundamental necessity for enterprises, small and mid-sized businesses and service providers,” said Bess.  “I have always been a strong proponent of the cloud.  Enforcing security policy from the cloud eliminates infrastructure, and reduces the costs and complexities of traditional secure web gateways.  Zscaler has done an extraordinary job executing on this vision, and in my estimation will continue to lead the way in cloud security innovation.”

The cost and complexity of chasing web and email security threats is a challenge faced by enterprises large and small, and cloud-delivered security solutions bring strong hope for finally getting ahead of the growing challenges.  Infonetics this month reported that they expect the cloud security and managed security services market to grow dramatically over the next few years, to just under $17 billion by 2015.  As threats continue to grow and expand beyond the traditional workplace, the power of cloud security becomes clear.  And these challenges only increase with the acceleration of mobility in the workplace; only cloud-delivered security can bring the scale, power and global enforcement points to manage mobility across all devices.
