Jay Chaudhry

CEO, Chairman and Founder

Jay is an accomplished entrepreneur, having founded a series of successful companies, including AirDefense, CipherTrust, CoreHarbor, SecureIT, and Zscaler, now a public company as of March 16, 2018.

Jay has a history of introducing visionary innovations to market that address the demand for securely enabling emerging technology trends, such as the Zscaler global security cloud for distributed and mobile enterprises. Jay’s considerable work in the security technology sector has made him a trusted advisor for many enterprise CIOs and CISOs.

Jay leverages more than 25 years of security industry expertise, including engineering, sales, marketing and management experience with leading organizations, such as IBM, NCR and Unisys. Prior to founding Zscaler in 2008, he founded and led AirDefense, a wireless security pioneer, before its acquisition by Motorola. From 2000 to 2006, Jay founded and led CipherTrust, the industry’s first email security gateway, before its merger with Secure Computing. He also founded and led CoreHarbor, a managed ecommerce solution, before it was acquired by USi/AT&T. In 1996, Jay founded and led his first company, SecureIT, the first pure-play Internet security service, before it was acquired by VeriSign in 1998.

Jay has been honored as an Ernst & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year (Southeast USA),” an Information Week “Innovator & Influencer”, an SC Magazine “Market Entrepreneur”, an IIT BHU “Distinguished Alumnus” and a Goldman Sachs “100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs.” He earned his MBA in Marketing, MS in Computer Engineering and MS in Industrial Engineering – all from the University of Cincinnati. He earned his Bachelor of Technology in Electronics Engineering from IIT BHU Varanasi. Jay has completed the Executive Management Program from Harvard Business School.

Remo E. Canessa

Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Canessa has served as our chief financial officer since February 2017. Prior to joining us, he served as chief financial officer of Illumio Inc., a private cybersecurity company, from July 2016 to February 2017. Prior to joining Illumio, from October 2004 to April 2016, Mr. Canessa served as chief financial officer and an advisor to Infoblox Inc., a network control, network automation and domain name system security company. Mr. Canessa is a certified public accountant (inactive), and he holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Business Administration from Santa Clara University. Mr. Canessa serves on the board of directors of Aerohive Networks, Inc., a cloud-managed mobile networking platform provider, where he is chairman of the audit committee and a member of the compensation committee.

Amit Sinha, Ph.D

Executive Vice President of Engineering and Cloud Operations, Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Sinha has served as our chief technology officer since December 2010, and he has also served as our executive vice president of engineering and cloud operations since October 2013. He has served as a member of our board of directors since May 2017. Dr. Sinha holds a Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Technology in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.

Manoj Apte, Ph.D

Chief Strategy Officer

Dr. Apte has served as our senior vice president and as our chief strategy officer since September 2016. Prior to his appointment as our chief strategy officer, Dr. Apte served as our vice president of product management from September 2008. Dr. Apte has a Doctor of Philosophy in computer science from Mississippi State University, a Master of Science in computational engineering from Mississippi State University and a Bachelor of Technology in aerospace technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.

Patrick Foxhoven

Chief Information Officer & Vice President of Emerging Technologies

Patrick Foxhoven is an experienced and innovative managed security entrepreneur and technologist, having spent 20 years building secure and scalable Internet-enabled networks while co-authoring three books on information security and receiving multiple patents. He is currently Chief Information Officer & Vice President of Emerging Technologies at Zscaler.

Prior to joining Zscaler in 2010, he was a founder and CIO of CentraComm, a leading managed IT security and services provider, and served earlier as an owner and principal network engineer of Friendly Net, an early residential ISP in the midwest United States.

Punit Minocha

Senior Vice President of Business and Corporate Development

Punit Minocha is an established security executive with history of nurturing key partnerships to develop robust technology ecosystems at industry-leading organizations, including Palo Alto Networks and Trend Micro.

As Vice President of Business Development and Mobile Solutions at Zscaler, Minocha is responsible for the strategic direction and execution of business development initiatives, including technology partnerships, strategic alliances and SI relationships; as well as its mobile security strategy, ecosystem and go-to-market. Minocha earned his MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, his MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin and his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire.

Robert Schlossman

Chief Legal Officer

Mr. Schlossman has served as our chief legal officer since February 2016. Prior to joining us, he served as the chief legal officer at Lucid Motors Inc., an electric car company, from May 2015 to January 2016. Prior to joining Lucid Motors, from March 2010 to August 2014, Mr. Schlossman served as the chief legal and administrative officer at Aptina Inc., a provider of imaging solutions, which was acquired by ON Semiconductor Corporation. Mr. Schlossman holds a Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, as well as a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts in English from Stanford University.

Larry Biagini

Chief Technology Evangelist

Larry Biagini recently retired as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of GE. While at GE, Larry’s focus was on contemporizing infrastructure, employee services and deploying cloud technology enabling secure usage of those services by GE’s employees, customers and partners. At Zscaler, Larry will focus on helping customers and partners better plan and execute their inevitable move towards expanding their use of cloud services.

In his 26 years at GE, Larry held various positions in Information Technology including Vice President, IT Risk having responsibility for all aspects of risk, governance and security; Vice President & CIO, GE Capital; Chief Technology Officer, CIO & Services Delivery for GE company and Chief Technology Officer for GE Aviation. During his tenure at GE, Larry was instrumental in driving successful technology integrations of global mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. In 2012 Larry was named a GE Company Officer.

Prior to GE, Larry led International Applications for Emery Air Freight and was Director of Financial Applications for Olin Chemical. Larry’s career has spanned 35 years in technology covering manufacturing, logistics and financial systems. Industrial verticals include healthcare, media, aviation and energy. Larry is a recognized global leader in creating environments enabling businesses to take advantage of new technologies in a reliable and secure manner. Larry holds a B.S. in accounting for Fairfield University.

Greg Pappas

Chief People Officer

Greg Pappas is a strategic executive who is passionate about aligning the people & culture organization to support business strategy and has devoted his career to providing leadership at both pre-IPO and public companies over the past 20 years.

Greg joined Zscaler from Specialized Bicycles, where he served as Chief People & Culture Officer, having served previously as VP of HR at many successful companies – CyberSource, Packeteer, Extended Systems, GlobalEnglish, and Inference Corporation – following HR management roles at Chordiant Software and Apple Computer.

Kailash

Chief Architect and Founder

Kailash co-founded Zscaler and is a recognized expert in scalable and high-performance networking and security systems. His more than 25 years of experience includes work at leading technology companies including AirDefense, CipherTrust, Netscaler, Mylex, Unisys and Wipro, where he started his career when it was a start-up. As a chief architect, Kailash’s accomplishments include building the industry’s highest-performing web application delivery and load balancing platform at NetScaler and improving the scalability of wireless security appliances by a factor of 20 while at AirDefense.

Kailash holds over 40 patents and earned an MS in Computer Technology from IIT Delhi and a B.Tech. in Electronics Engineering from IIT BHU, Varanasi.

Charles Giancarlo

CEO of Pure Storage

Mr. Giancarlo has served as a member of our board of directors since November 2016. Mr. Giancarlo has served as chief executive officer and a director of Pure Storage, Inc., an enterprise level data storage company, since August 2017. From January 2008 until October 2015, Mr. Giancarlo was a managing director and then Strategic Advisor of Silver Lake Partners, a private investment firm that focuses on technology, technology-enabled and related growth industries. From May 1993 to December 2007, Mr. Giancarlo served in numerous senior executive roles at Cisco Systems, Inc., a provider of communications and networking products and services, ultimately as the executive vice president and chief development officer from May 2004 to December 2007. Mr. Giancarlo currently serves on the boards of directors of Accenture plc, a management consulting business, Avaya, Inc., a provider of business collaboration and communications solutions, Imperva, Inc., a provider of business security solutions, Arista Networks, Inc., a manufacturer of networking products, and various private companies. He previously served on the boards of directors of ServiceNow, Inc., Netflix, Inc. and Tintri, Inc. Mr. Giancarlo holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Brown University, a Master of Science in electrical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. We believe Mr. Giancarlo is qualified to serve as a member of our board of directors based on his extensive business expertise, including his prior executive level leadership, and his experience on the boards of publicly traded technology companies.        

Karen Blasing

Independent Director

Ms. Blasing has served as a member of our board of directors since January 2017. Ms. Blasing served as the chief financial officer of Guidewire Software, Inc. from 2009 to March 2015. Prior to 2009, Ms. Blasing served as the chief financial officer for Force10 Networks, Inc. and as the senior vice president of finance for salesforce.com, and she also served as chief financial officer for Nuance Communications, Inc. and Counterpane Internet Security, Inc. and held senior finance roles for Informix Corporation (now IBM Informix) and Oracle Corporation. Ms. Blasing currently sits on the board of directors of Ellie Mae, Inc., a provider of on-demand software solutions and services for the residential mortgage industry in the United States. Ms. Blasing holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics and business administration from the University of Montana and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Washington. We believe Ms. Blasing is qualified to serve as a member of our board of directors based on her extensive financial leadership and management experience at numerous SaaS and enterprise software companies.

Lane Bess

Investor

Mr. Bess has served as a member of our board of directors since May 2011. Mr. Bess has served as principal and founder of Bess Ventures and Advisory, LLC, a strategic management, investment and marketing services firm, since February 2015. Prior to founding Bess Ventures and Advisory, Mr. Bess served as our chief operating officer from May 2011 to February 2015. From 2008 to 2010, Mr. Bess was chief executive officer of Palo Alto Networks, Inc. Mr. Bess holds a Bachelor of Science in managerial economics from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Dayton. We believe Mr. Bess is qualified to serve as a member of our board of directors based on his extensive experience in building and leading technology businesses and the operational insight and expertise he accumulated as our chief operating officer.

Nehal Raj

Partner, TPG

Mr. Raj has served as a member of our board of directors since July 2015. Mr. Raj is a Partner at TPG, a private investment firm based in San Francisco, where he leads investments in the technology sector for both TPG Capital and TPG Growth. Prior to joining TPG in 2006, he was an associate at Francisco Partners. Mr. Raj is currently a director of multiple private companies, including C3 IoT, Domo, Inc., EverFi, Inc., Mediware Information Systems, Inc., Noodle Analytics, Inc. and Sutherland Global Services, Inc. Mr. Raj received a Bachelor of Arts in economics and Master of Science in industrial engineering from Stanford University, where he was Phi Beta Kappa, and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar. We believe Mr. Raj is qualified to serve as a member of our board of directors based on his experience as a director of technology companies and his background in the private equity industry, including his experience with investments in network technology, infrastructure SaaS and cybersecurity companies.

Andrew Brown

CEO and Co-Founder, Sand Hill East

Mr. Brown has served as a member of our board of directors since October 2015. Mr. Brown has served as chief executive officer of Sand Hill East LLC, a strategic management, investment and marketing services firm, since February 2014. Since 2006, he has also been the chief executive officer and co-owner of Biz Tectonics LLC, a privately held consulting company. From September 2010 to October 2013, Mr. Brown served as group chief technology officer of UBS Securities LLC, an investment bank. From 2008 to 2010, Mr. Brown served as head of strategy, architecture and optimization at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, the corporate and investment banking division of Bank of America. From 2006 to 2008, Mr. Brown served as chief technology officer of infrastructure at Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC. Mr. Brown currently sits on the board of directors of Guidewire Software, Inc., a provider of software products for property and casualty insurers, where he serves as a member of the compensation committee. Mr. Brown holds a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in chemical physics from University College London. We believe Mr. Brown is qualified to serve as a member of our board of directors based on his extensive experience as chief technology officer of multiple Fortune 500 companies, as well as his service on the board of directors of other publicly held companies.

Scott Darling

President of Dell Technologies Capital (DTC)

Mr. Darling has served as a member of our board of directors since November 2016. Mr. Darling has served as president of Dell Technologies Capital, the corporate development and venture capital arm of Dell Technologies Inc., since September 2016. Prior to joining Dell Technologies upon its acquisition of EMC Corp., Mr. Darling was president of EMC Corporate Development and Ventures from March 2012 to September 2016, and in such role he was responsible for EMC’s business development and venture capital investment activity. Prior to joining EMC, Mr. Darling was a general partner at Frazier Technology Ventures II, L.P., which he joined in 2007, and was vice president and managing director at Intel Capital Corp., the venture capital arm of Intel Corporation, from 2000 to 2007. Mr. Darling represents Dell Technologies Capital on the board of directors of the private companies Barefoot Networks, Inc. and DocuSign Inc. Mr. Darling received a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of California at Santa Cruz and a Master of Business Administration from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. We believe Mr. Darling is qualified to serve as a member of our board of directors based on his experience as a director of and as an investor in multiple technology companies.
